How is a corporate website different ?
The basic purpose of any website is advertising . Lot of information can be made available on a website for way less cost than you would incurre in a newspaper advertisement .

When closely looked there are basically three types of websites on internet .

Marketting / sales website ,
Teaching websites ,
Corporate websites .

Marketting / sales website is one which is solely intented to sell products and servivces . These types of websites are incomplete without a sales letter . Most often you will come websites where there are a 100 products on sale and you still do not know which one to buy . This is where a sales letter comes in . However that's not what we are discussing here .

Teaching websites . These websites are focused towards providing some sort of knowledge to their visitors . Most often you will also see advertisements of other website on these websites . These are the sponser websites of this website .

Corporate website . The website intented to provide lot of information about an existing running business . The business could be anything . How is it different ?

The difference is in the intention of the company holding the website and the attitude and aspirations of the visitor visiting the website .

A corporate website is a reflection of the company itself . Any kind of non-functionality could easily harm the reputation of the company itself . Professionalism is expected to the maximum .

Professionalism is not only confined to looks of the website alone but to much deeper factors like the ease of using the website . If your customer has to "SEARCH All over " for a link that takes them to your contact page , then it surely is not professionalism . Customer ease should be in all cases be considered .

The language of the website should not be very personal but should be personalised enough to make the visitor feel that you care . A glossary of terms should be included to help the visitor understand any technical aspect of the message . Most website designers do not consider the fact that the term "Search Engine Optimisation" may not be as clear to you as it is to website designers . Many such terms are explained in short brief on html terms explained paper . Please note it is not a html tutorial but only familiarises you with terms like "FTP", TEMPLET" and similar ones .

It is highly recommended that the traditional system of design be followed on a corporate website . Use of flash animations be kept limited and towards the right of the page as it will then make the Content load first and flash later . This would not keep the visitor waiting just to see a few short messages on a page . If using flash to deliver a message , an alternat text should be included below the flash .

The above are a few things that make corporate website designing a challenge as a website is a reflection of your business and my skills . Marketting websites / sales websites and teaching websites have a different kind of approach than corporate websites . Note a Sales letter is essential on a marketting website while it is optional on a corporate website . Designing a sales letter and designing it for both potential customer and search engines is like playing with fire when drenched in gasoline . A little mistake leads to complete destruction .
