Javascript script to change selected text in textarea in IE and firefox

Sometimes you feel the need to change the selected text in a textarea field, and the good news is that this is possible with javascript.

Below is a cross browser ( Firefox, Internet explorer ) compatible javascript code that changes/replaces the selected text in a textarea.

Copy the javascript code in notepad, along with example textarea below and try it.

This works both in mozilla firefox (FF) and internet explorer (IE: IE6,IE7,IE8).
