Step 1: Find a New Host Before You Cancel the Old One

Never cancel your existing hosting before you have a new account ready. Sign up and set up the new account first. See our free hosting list or our own hosting plans.

Step 2: Copy All Files to the New Host

Download a complete copy of your site from your old host via FTP. Upload the same files to your new host.

Step 3: Copy the Database

Export your database from the old host's phpMyAdmin. Import it into the new host's phpMyAdmin. Update any config files with new database credentials.

Step 4: Test on the New Host Before Changing DNS

Add a line to your local hosts file pointing your domain to the new host's IP to test before going live.

Step 5: Update Your DNS

Update your nameservers to point to the new host. DNS propagation takes up to 48 hours. Keep your old account active during this period.
